BIAS REPORTING

A bias incident includes conduct, behavior, or expression that is threatening, harassing, intimidating, discriminatory, or hostile and targets specific individuals or groups based on their actual or perceived social identity. Bias incidents could include: verbal slurs, degrading language or name-calling, hate-motivated graffiti or vandalism, physical or visual displays of prejudice, or other forms of harassment or discrimination based on a person’s identity.

The bias incident report is available to any student who has observed a bias incident that involves the UNCG campus community. If this is an emergency that requires immediate attention, please contact campus police at 336.334.4444 prior to filing a bias incident report.

Reporting your lived experiences while at UNCG can feel empowering and contributes to our culture of care. Reporting leads to learning about what support options and resources are available. Reporting also helps UNCG understand the scope of bias-related incidents on campus and trends, which allows us to develop intentional strategies that will ultimately support students and work towards creating a warmer campus climate for all students, staff, and faculty.

A member of the Dean of Students Office will respond to your report if you request follow-up. Students who request a follow-up from the Dean of Students Office will receive an email with a letter inviting them to meet to: discuss the incident, identify opportunities to address the incident, receive support, and learn about campus and community resources. We may assess avenues for minimizing or eliminating the possibility of future harm in consultation and coordination with other appropriate University offices.

Your confidentiality in this process is very important, and every effort will be made to protect your privacy. Though UNCG places a strong emphasis on confidentiality, anonymity cannot be guaranteed in reports involving the safety of the community, and or incidents involving actions that violate state or federal law. Also, please note that our ability to respond or take further action may be impacted by the level of information available about the incident or the individuals involved.

Students, clubs, organizations, faculty, and staff may request an Erase Hate presentation.  Please submit a request form here: https://forms.office.com/r/0YZXLEPye2
